No. All the friends are artificial intelligence characters, and their voices are also generated by artificial intelligence. Each one was created with a story, a family, a routine and a way of speaking, but there is no real person replying. If you ask, they tell you they are AI.

They are historical figures, such as Frederick Douglass, Mark Twain and Harriet Tubman, recreated by artificial intelligence from public sources. You talk to them by letters, in their own time and their own way. They do not speak for the real people.

No. The conversation starts simple, with the words you already recognize, and each friend talks at the pace of the chat.

Yes. Several languages have more than one city. English, for example, has circles in Austin, London, Sydney, Toronto and Dublin.

Yes. You can decline a friend request, remove a friend from your list and bring in someone else from the circle.

Yes. Menus and explanations show up in your language. For full immersion, you can switch the whole app to the language you are living.

Friends write throughout the day, following their own routines, and reply when you write. Sometimes they take a while, because they are at work or asleep.

Yes. Friends send voice notes and you answer by voice. On your voice note, tapping "how it sounded" shows a score from 1 to 5 and the words that sounded different.

You can call by voice or video, or pick up when a friend calls. Live captions show up whenever you want them, and every word opens its meaning with a tap.

Tap any word to see its meaning, or hold the message and tap "I didn't get it" to see what it means in your language.

Yes. Pollyfriends opens in your phone's browser and can be added to your home screen like an app. It also works on a computer.

No one on the team reads your chats to reply: replies are generated by automated systems. The details are in the Privacy policy.
